Do you deliver wholesale orders every day?

Yes, we deliver wholesale orders daily based on established delivery routes.

I found you at a farmer’s market, but now I’m looking for a local bakery near me in the East Bay. Do you have bakeries in Oakland, CA or in the East Bay that I can visit?

Yes! You can visit us at our two retail cafe bakeries in the East Bay: 

  • In Oakland on College Ave. (two blocks from Rockridge BART)
  • In Albany on Solano Ave. 

Our wholesale production facility is located in Berkeley, on Gilman Street, and is not open to the public.

Do you offer preorders for your retail bakery cafes?

We do offer preorders through Toast for both our Oakland (College Ave.) and Albany (Solano Ave.) locations. When you select “Order / Pickup” for each location on our website, you’ll be directed to our third-party ordering platform, Toast.

How do you place an order online for pick-up?

  1. Click on Locations in the navigation bar of starterbakery.com. Select either College Ave. or Solano Ave. bakery cafe for pick-up.
  2. Select the items you want to order, clicking on the quantity and then clicking on the “Add to Cart” button.
  3. You will then be prompted to input the day and time desired for the pick-up. Then click the “Confirm” button.
  4. Confirm the items in your cart and click the “Checkout” button to finalize your order. 
  5. At this point, you will either sign into an existing TOAST account or create one.
    (NOTE IF YOU NEED TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT: You will need to input your email address, first and last name, as well as your phone number. It will then send you a code to your phone to confirm it’s you. Then you can proceed to the payment step).
  6. You will be prompted to input your credit card number information and add a tip (optional). Then, click the “Place Order” button and you are all set. A receipt will be sent to your email address provided.
  7. Please head to the second register at College Ave. or the espresso bar at Solano Ave.to pick up your preorder and show your emailed receipt at the time of your arrival. 

How do you place an order online for delivery?

  1. Click on Locations in the navigation bar of starterbakery.com. Select either College Ave. or Solano Ave. bakery cafe for pick-up.
  2. Select “Delivery.” Determine you are within delivery range by clicking on delivery and inputting your address. Leave notes about how to deliver your order here too.
  3. Input the day and time desired for the delivery. Then click the “Confirm” button.
  4. Select the items you want to order, clicking on the quantity and then clicking on the “Add to Cart” button.
  5. Confirm the items in your cart and click the “Checkout” button to finalize your order. 
  6. At this point, you will either sign into an existing TOAST account or create one.

Then, click the “Place Order” button and you are all set. A receipt will be sent to your email address provided and you should receive texts and/or email with delivery updates.

Do you have another way of placing an order for pick-up if I don’t want to use the Toast platform?

Yes. If you prefer not to use the Toast platform, you can call us and we will assist you with placing your order. 

What allergy-friendly options (gluten-free, nut-free, vegan) do you offer, and how do you prevent cross-contamination?

We offer a selection of vegan items at our retail bakery cafes. Please ask our team for current availability.

At this time, we do not offer gluten-free products.

Our bakery processes milk, eggs, wheat, soy, tree nuts, and sesame (sesame at retail bakery cafes only). While we take care in our handling practices, all products are made in a shared facility, and we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contact with allergens.

Do you offer catering for small gatherings as well as large ones?

Yes. We offer catering for both small gatherings and larger events. You can submit a custom order request through the form on our Contact Us page, and you can also view our current boxed catering options on EZCater.
