Ordering & Fulfillment

Starter Bakery offers local delivery and in-store pick-up for certain products through third-party online ordering platforms, including Toast, as available.

At this time, most online orders are fulfilled via local delivery or pick-up. We do not regularly offer nationwide shipping, though limited direct-to-consumer shipping may be offered in the future for select seasonal products (such as panettone). Any shipping options, restrictions, and pricing will be clearly disclosed at the time of purchase.

Store Pick-up

Pick-up availability is determined by item availability and production schedules. If you do not see a desired pick-up date at checkout, it may be because one or more items in your cart are only available on certain days. These restrictions will be noted in the product description.

Local Delivery (via Third-Party Platforms)

Local delivery is offered through third-party ordering and delivery platforms (such as Toast and its integrated delivery partners).

  • Delivery area: Generally within approximately a 10-mile driving radius of
    901 Gilman Street, Berkeley, CA 94710
  • Delivery fees: Determined by the third-party platform or delivery partner and displayed at checkout
  • Tipping: Optional driver tipping may be available at checkout, where supported by the platform

Starter Bakery does not control delivery pricing, driver availability, or delivery timing once an order is placed through a third-party platform.

Shipping (Future Availability)

From time to time, Starter Bakery may offer direct shipping for select products, typically seasonal or shelf-stable items. When shipping is available:

  • Eligible products and destinations will be clearly identified at checkout
  • Shipping fees, timelines, and any limitations will be disclosed prior to purchase
  • Additional terms may apply depending on the product and destination

If shipping is not presented as an option at checkout, it is not available for that product.

Refunds & Order Issues

All sales are final.

Because our products are freshly prepared food items (or limited seasonal items produced in small batches), we do not accept returns or offer refunds for changes of mind, missed pick-ups, incorrect delivery addresses entered at checkout, or scheduling errors.

Orders placed through third-party platforms may also be subject to that platform’s refund or support policies.

Holiday Periods & Special Events

During holidays, festivals, or special pop-up events, offerings, pick-up locations, delivery availability, and hours may vary. Details will be provided at the time of ordering.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in operations, ordering platforms, or fulfillment options. The most current version will always be posted on our website.

We offer local delivery and pick-up at our Oakland and Albany bakery cafes, Wednesday through Sundays, unless holiday hours impact operation through a third party platform, Toast. For information about pick-up at our Gilman location, visit Too Good To Go. We do not offer shipping. During holiday periods and other annual festivities, we may have additional pop-ups with seasonal offerings.
